The Binding

The Binding
(0AB)

The Island Prison: Before the ice, Iskavell was a lush, volcanic island known for its distinct geothermal power. It was chosen by the Pantheon not for its size, but for its connection to the core of the world.

The Seven Acts: The Pantheon conspired to save reality from the Great Renewal. Through the Seven Acts of Containment, they prepared to bind Naeros, the Seed of the New World, beneath the crust of the earth.

The Living Chain: The Gods could not seal the Material Plane alone; they needed mortal vessels to ground the cosmic energy. They chose a lineage of mortals, ancient scholars and warriors, to serve as the Living Chain. During the ritual, divine power was channelled through them, burning away their mortality to forge a connection with the prison.

The Sudden Silence: There was no warning. The ritual did not cool the world slowly; it snapped the heat from the atmosphere in a single, cosmic heartbeat. The ocean flash-froze. The sky turned grey.

The Cost of Silence: The ritual exacted a terrible price. To cool the chains, the ocean surrounding the binding site was flash-frozen into the island of Iskavell. The coastal civilizations worshipping the entity were not warned; they were washed away and entombed beneath the ice. The Wardens accepted the drowning of these whole peoples as the necessary cost of their eternal vigil, sparking a hatred that would eventually birth the Drowned Court.

The Soul Anchors: These mortals were not merely observers; they were components of the spell. As the ritual concluded, their souls were bound to the seal itself, transforming them into the Wardens of the Endless Watch. They became the living mortar of the prison, their very existence tying the cage to the physical world.
