Traveller's Warnings

Traveller’s Warnings

(A guide for the lost and the curious)

Iskavell is not a land that welcomes visitors. Each faction that calls this frozen rock home has its own price for admission, and often, that price is paid in blood or spirit. Read these warnings well before you leave the safety of the shore.

Trust is a luxury the settlers cannot afford. If you find yourself in the coastal camps, keep your back to the sea and your coin purse hidden. They are survivors first and neighbours second. If a storm rolls in, do not expect them to open their doors unless you have something worth the risk of letting the cold inside.

Avoid the scent of sweet nectar and the drifting green spores. The Dawn may offer you "healing" or a place in their garden, but remember that the Bloom requires a host to grow. If their preachers look more like wood than men, do not stay to hear the end of the sermon. The forest is always hungry.

If you hear the thrum of the Arkive’s pistons, move upwind. The fortress does not stop for travellers, and its masters care more for energy readings than human lives. They might hire you as a scavenger, but they will treat you like a spent battery. Stay away from the venting steam; it carries the static of the Rifts and can scramble your mind.

Never walk out onto the shelf-ice alone, especially when the moon is thin. If you see lights beneath the surface, do not look directly at them. The songs rising through the cracks are not meant for human ears. If the ice begins to vibrate with a rhythmic hum, run for the shore. The Court is not looking for friends; they are looking for sacrifices to pull into the dark.

If you see a figure clawing its way out of the permafrost, do not attempt to help or communicate. These are the Wardens of the Endless Watch, ancient souls buried alive to guard a god. They are the living extensions of the tomb. They ignore the politics of the living, but they have no mercy for those who disturb the sacred boundaries of the Caldera. To them, you are simply a stain on the silence.
