Zylara

"The Law is a wall, built to keep you cold and small. I say: Jump the wall. Break the lock. Steal the fire. If you aren't free to make a mistake, you aren't free at all." — Carved into the hull of the Ice-Skiff 'Defiance'

Description & Iconography
Visuals: Zylara is rarely depicted with a solid form. She is a Silhouette of Shadow and Secrets—a feminine figure cut from the night sky, lacking detailed features but possessing a distinct, confident posture.
-
The Attire: She wears the silhouette of a pirate captain's longcoat and a tricorn hat, the edges of which trail off into smoke.
-
The Face: Where her face should be, there is only deep shadow, occasionally lit by two glowing, golden eyes that wink or narrow depending on the deal being struck.
-
The Hands: Her hands are solid shadow, usually shown flipping a gold coin or holding a quill made of a crow's feather.
The Avatar: She manifests as The Lucky Shadow. A shadow that moves independently of its owner, leading them to a hidden path or covering their tracks. Sometimes, she appears as a hooded woman in the back of a gambling hall who wins every hand, buys the whole room a drink, and vanishes into a dark corner.

Traits & Motivations (The Public Doctrine)
The Creed: Zylara is the Intermediary. The High Gods are too terrifying or rigid for common folk. Zylara bridges the gap.
-
The Divine Broker: She makes bargains on behalf of the other gods. If a sailor needs safe passage from Oalara but has sinned, they make a deal with Zylara. She uses her trickery to smooth things over with the Judge... for a fee.
-
The Cut: She always keeps a share. "The House always wins." If you find a chest of gold, one coin belongs to her. If you don't pay the cut, your luck turns sour.
The Outlaw's Patron: Zylara loves the Audacious. She is the patron of Pirates and Outlaws, not because she loves crime, but because she loves Freedom.
-
Generosity: She despises hoarding. "Gold is heavy; it sinks ships." She is the Goddess of Redistribution. Her followers are famous for pulling off massive heists and then throwing half the loot into the streets of the slums.
-
Secrets: She is the keeper of secrets. She rules over the footprints you don't leave.
Routine & Worship
Rituals:
-
The Third Pour: When sharing a bottle of rum or wine, the first sip is for the guest, the second for the host, and the third is poured into the darkest corner of the room for Zylara.
-
The Blind Bargain: To seal a pact in Zylara’s name, it must be done in total darkness or while blindfolded. This signifies trust in the Trickster (and the risk that she might cheat you).
-
The Backward Step: Before committing a crime or fleeing pursuit, thieves walk three steps backward, praying that Zylara will "eat their trail" and confuse the guards.
Omens of Displeasure:
-
The Traitor's Light: A torch suddenly flaring up when you are trying to hide in the dark.
-
The Empty Bag: Reaching into your pocket to find your coin purse cut, or your share of the loot turning to ash.
-
The Bad Beat: Losing a gamble you were statistically guaranteed to win.

The Divine Truth (GM Only)
Cosmic Role: The Fixer / The Diplomat.
Role in the Betrayal:
-
The Draftswoman: Zylara did not start the Betrayal, but she wrote the contract. She negotiated the terms between the brute force of Thondor, the magic of Soteris, and the poison of Malephor. She ensured the prison would hold by binding the gods' egos together in a legal web.
-
Why she helped: She doesn't hate Naeros, but Naeros was too absolute. In a world of total Creation, there is no need for bargaining, no need for luck, and no shadows to hide in. Zylara thrives in the grey areas.
True Motivation:
-
The Game: Zylara is friendly with all the gods because she is useful to all of them. She is the grease in the gears of the conspiracy.
-
She helps Malephor smuggle things into the cities.
-
She helps Thondor negotiate treaties (taking a fee).
-
-
The Double-Cross: While she serves the Pantheon, she loves the "Ultimate Trick." She is the most likely god to help the players, simply because she wants to see if they can pull off the heist of the millennium (freeing Naeros or robbing the prison). She plays both sides to keep the game interesting. ::
